BIO:

Kana Miyamoto is a New York based flutist, educator and a composer, originally from Chiba, Japan. Kana released her debut album, “Spring Doze” which already has been getting reviews from magazines and WNYC-FM. Her performance is strongly influenced by Ian Anderson, Huber Laws, Joe Farrell.

In 2002, the Government Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan awarded Kana an "Up-and-Coming Artist Overseas Training" grant, which allowed her to study abroad in the U.S. for a year in Nevada. The experience there made her decide to graduate from Interlochen Arts Academy after three years of study. Kana returned to Japan to pursue a degree in Music at Tokyo College of Music. After graduation, she started her career as a flute player. Kana also has a passion for outreach in the area of musical performance education for children, including PTINA. She organized many concert programs, including her composition for two existing picture story books: ‘‘GURUNPA’’ and ‘‘MIHO To INOHANABOUZU.’’

Kana moved to New York in 2014 to pursue a performance degree from the New School’s Program for Jazz and Contemporary Music.  Kana studied with Steve Cardinas, Billy Harper, Richard Boukas, Marc Mommas, Jamie Baum and Armen Donelian. She joined the Hudson Jazz workshop in 2015 as a fellowship student. Her 1st Kanacept album, “Spring Doze” was released in 2017. Subsequently, she went on tour in Japan in 2018. At that time, she traveled to 6 places in the Tokyo and Kansai Area. In 2019, Kana joined the New York Jazz Workshop as a flute faculty and performed for Swing into Spring Jazz Festival in Stony Brook. In January of 2020, she performed a duo with Takaaki Otomo at the Residence of the Ambassador, Consulate General of Japan in New York.
